Pre-Residency Applications

To submit an application for the Pre-Residency program, you will need to respond to two essay questions and upload a copy of your transcript. For the purposes of this application, an unofficial transcript will suffice. If accepted, you’ll be asked to share an official copy with GVSU.  You will want to have access to your unofficial transcript and essay responses before starting the application.

The essay questions for the application are below. Please include your name on your uploaded documents. Responses should be no longer than 500 words.

  • What experiences - personal, professional, and/or educational - have shaped your motivation to pursue a teaching career in West Michigan? Please address your interest in the content and grade level to which you are applying.
  • Successful teachers are lifelong learners. They look for ways to learn and grow from feedback, failure, setbacks and challenges. Please share an example of a time in which you experienced a failure or faced a significant setback. How did you approach the situation and what did you learn from it?

Your application will be reviewed by our team and qualified candidates will be contacted to continue in the selection process.

If you currently work in one of our partner districts, please apply using the Partner District Application. If you do not, please apply with the General Application.

The application process for the Pre-Residency cohort will re-open in July.
