Pre-Residency

Pre-Residency

The WMTC Pre-Residency Program was designed for aspiring teachers who did not yet have a bachelor’s degree but wanted a supported pathway into the profession. The program provides guidance, assistance, and wraparound support for individuals working toward completing their bachelor’s degree and ultimately entering the classroom.

Through a partnership with Grand Valley State University’s LEADS program, participants build upon existing college credits to finish their bachelor’s degree tuition-free. Courses were offered online or in the evenings to accommodate working adults.

Participants receive ongoing support from GVSU and WMTC, including academic advising, regular cohort meetings, and preparation activities to help them develop foundational skills for future classroom success.

While completing coursework, individuals work within partner districts to gain early experience, build relationships, and begin making an impact.

Upon earning their bachelor’s degree, participants transition directly into the WMTC Residency Program, ultimately finishing the program with a teaching certificate and support in securing a full-time teaching position.
